Hello, Friends!
It’s been 4 months since we opened SAVA 2.0 (time flies!), and I'd like to summarize our expenses and share how much it cost us to open a cafe.
Initially, I planned to provide a detailed guide on opening a cafe from scratch, but I realized it would be quite lengthy. Instead, I'll keep it concise.

Now, let's talk about the costs:
Renovation: $84,000 (over budget by $20,000)
Equipment and Furniture: $75,000
Permits and Paperwork: $6,000 (unexpected)
Outdoor Sign: $5,000
AC System: $5,000 (unexpected)
Millwork/Counter: $27,000 (over budget by $10,000)
Coffee Equipment: $24,000
Total: $230,000
Total time from receiving the keys to opening the cafe: 4.5 months
As you can see, we ended up with around $40,000 in unexpected costs.
Feel free to share your thoughts on how much you expected it would cost to start a cafe in Canada. I believe our expenses were within the average range for opening a cafe in Toronto.

Thank you so much for posting this information, it has been very helpful for someone who's always dreamed of opening her own cafe/bakery. May I ask if the location was previously a cafe or did you have to start from scratch on the inside? I am curious as there are quite a lot of newly built condos with retail space at the bottom but I do not think they have vents or pipes yet for food service.
