Hi Friends!
I would like to talk today about one of the most unpleasant sides of our business: non-paying guests and stolen tips, which are basically both thefts. Fortunately, we do not have many occasions like this, but there have been some.
We had a lady who came into the store and seemed rude from the beginning. She took a table, finished her cake and drink, and made some racist comments at the same time. When it was time to pay the bill, she gave us a card that did not work. At least she could have found some cash. She promised to bring money next time, but of course, we never saw her again.
A similar case happened just a day ago. One of the guests ordered a crepe with a latte. Then she came to the counter to pay and said she did not have enough money to cover the bill. Do you want to know how much money she had? Zero! 😄 I just did not understand why she even bothered to come to the counter.
We noticed that some bills were stolen from the tip jar. When we checked the cameras, we found the culprit! The guy ordered coffee with a muffin and dragged a bill from the jar when we turned to make his coffee. And guess what: he showed up the next day to get another coffee…
The worst thing about these three situations is that we could not do anything about it. You cannot stop a person from leaving the store without paying, but you may call the police and report a theft attempt. The best we can do is to remember all these people and not serve them next time. If you know the best way to handle these situations, please let us know. :)
